Dale Travellers AC was established in the early 1980’s. It all started with a
group of friends meeting for a run around the village and then chatting about
their exploits over a swift half or two. Word of these exploits gradually
spread and after a while the running club was born.
We now have
around 100 runners ranging from marathon runners and fell runners to joggers
and beginners. We meet at 7pm each Tuesday and Thursday for a Club run from The
Pie Hall on Wakefield Road, Denby Dale. Club runs
offer something for runners of all ability, with runs ranging from 3-4 miles at
a steady jogging pace to 8 miles, or sometimes more at a brisk at race training
permits, our Club runs are normally off-road, using the many footpaths and
rights of way in the area. What a great way to see the countryside! We don’t
have any changing facilities to offer, so it’s best to come changed but
afterwards the bar at the Pie Hall is open to us for that post-run drink! Whether
you want to run competitively or simply to keep fit, there’s something for
everyone (over 16 years of age).
For those that want to run competitively, Club
members take part in road races, trail races,
fell running and cross-country. We also take part in team events
such as the Barnsley Boundary Way relay, the Calderdale Way relay, the West
Yorkshire Cross Country league and the Yorkshire veterans cross country. The
Club is affiliated to England Athletics and our annual subscription is only £15!
If you would like to join us for a run without obligation, we
would be very pleased to see you any Tuesday or Thursday at the Pie Hall, Denby
Dale at 7.00pm. An appplication form for Club Memerbship is available by following the link on this page. Alternatively, for further information contact Andy Kirby (club
secretary) on tel:01226 791143.
