Travellers 6 Road Race 2014
Sunday 21 December at 1pm
The Travellers 6 road race takes place on Sunday 21 December, starting at 1pm from the Pie Hall, Denby Dale (HD8 8RX). Please note the slightly later than usual start time!
The course is what race organizers describe as 'undulating
and challenging'; not a pb course, but a really good run and mostly on quiet
country roads. There will be food for runners free of charge in the Pie Hall after
the race and a licensed bar open from midday. Great for a pre-Christmas blast!
An entry form and a map of the course are available to download from this page, with results from the 2013 race.
Mickleden Straddle Fell Race
The Mickleden Straddle fell race took place on Sunday 2 February 2014, over a 14.3 mile course with 2431ft of climb, starting and finishing at Langsett Barn. After the wet and windy weather of recent days, the runners enjoyed a bright but breezy day for the run.
Tim Ellis of Calder Valley was the overall winner in an excellent time of 1:45:42, well ahead of Any Swift of Penistone and Ian Mills (U/A). This was a repeat success for Tim who won the race in 2013.
Calder Valley completed the double with Helen Fines the first lady home in 1:54:24, with Jo Bolton of Kimberworth and Lisa Grantham of Pensby taking second and third positions. This was also a repeat success for Helen who won the ladies race last year.
The Penistone team of Andy Swift, Damian Kilpin and Andy Shelbourne won the men's team race with the Pensby team of Lisa Grantham, Ceri Lyn Baker and Pat Peers taking the ladies team prize. Andy Green and Claire Wilkinson were the first finishers from home Club Denby Dale Travellers.
